That’s a wrap! We had a blast hosting the Maui Fire Department crews in to climb all throughout April and have a little fun in the gym. These guys are strong! We’re so grateful to have them keeping us safe. A huge thank you to all the firefighters on island for all you do 🙏

We’re back at it! Join Aloha Rock Gym and @the_foam_co for a morning well spent at the harbor. It always feels good to give this place some love. We’ll meet at the Kahului boat ramp and gather all the trash we can from 9am to 11am, then have some cold drinks kindly donated by @pauwelabeverage after. What to bring: work gloves, water, and sun protection. We have found some sharp objects in the past, so please wear protective shoes. Make sure to share with a friend- the more hands the better!

Setting is a give and take process- not one and done. While the initial route can go up fast, the forerunning process almost always takes longer. Tweaking angles here, switching holds there, until the climb is just right. This week’s beta breakdown- the white V3 on The 45. This climb will help you practice staying low on the slopers- this helps you have more friction (less slipping). So put on your Apple Bottom jeans and the boots with the fur and get low on this climb 🙃

Wow, great job to all the competitors in our first comp this past weekend, The Golden Egg. Everyone did AWESOME! Besides all the fun with with the egg hunt (man you guys were fast at spotting those) and the egg on a spoon challenge (wayyyy harder than you’d think), the speed comps were a blast to watch. For sport climbing we had @zen_becker in 1st taking home the free pair of @evolv_worldwide climbing shoes, @gnarly.marley in 2nd with the @zigzagclimbing chalk bag, and @alex.fahland in 3rd with a T-shirt + all winners snagged some free buddy passes 🙌 For bouldering we had Tomas with 1st place, @alex.fahland in 2nd, and @kaden_pritchard_life in 3rd with the same prizes for their hard work 🤙 Thank you everyone for coming out and making it a great time! 🫶

Falling is an inevitable part of bouldering, so it’s important you learn to fall correctly so you can reduce your risk of injury. As @allisonjoycecarter likes to say, “Live to climb another day!” When are you more likely to get injured? - when you’re climbing tired, or at the end of your session - when you go for a move and miss, this makes you fall at an angle on the mat (making a rolled ankle more likely!) Be smart when climbing, it’s better to have a shorter session than a longer recovery! Send this to someone it may help 👯

Found this beta video we never posted of this black V6 from our most recent Wave wall reset. Did you read this right? Did you know it was a toe? The next wall to be reset will be The Slab! 🤙

Let’s break this down so you never miss getting your project 🥲 Here’s the general setting schedule for Boulders and Sport down below: Boulders: Each Monday we reset a new Boulder wall. We go in the order below, with 1 area per week, unless there’s a special set that causes a switch (like the Valentine’s set). 1. The Vert 2. The Corner 3. The Slab 4. The Alcove 5. The Wave 6. The 45 7. The Cave After The Cave reset, you can plan on a bye week of no setting boulders. This gives you more time to work on your problem before it’s taken down. Sport: You can see the Sport Corridor on the map in blue. We reset sport routes every Tuesday & Wednesday starting from the left side moving clockwise. Have a friend that needs to see this? Share it with them! 🤍 *Heads up, there will be no new boulders set tomorrow March 16th!

Tricky start and a tricky finish! Saddle up and give this one a go. Not a V5 climber? It’s still a fun first move to try! Even if you can’t do an entire route, there such progress, fun and value in doing the bits you can. Eventually who knows, they may string together! Anyone else laugh when you saw how to land the first move? 🧐😆

Our first classes are here, starting this Friday the 27th! Join us for Climbing 101, where beginner climbers can dig a little deeper and learn to be more efficient on the wall. If you’re a member please call to book and receive your $50 discount. $50 for members and $100 for non-members. This includes your day pass + rentals 🤙 Intro to Lead is next up on March 6 & 7. This 2 day course is meant for 5.10 climbers who are confident on the wall and want to learn how to lead climb. $250 for non-members and $175 for members. Sport- let’s get to know the ropes! All sport climbs in the gym follow the Yosemite Decimal System. 5.5 to 5.8 = Beginner 5.9 to 5.10+ = Intermediate 5.11- to 5.12 = Advanced 5.12+ & up = Expert Sport is a little different, there aren’t marked start holds or TOP tags- it’s just start from the bottom and get to the last hold! Volumes are also on for sport climbs just like bouldering. What do you guys want to see us go over next? 🤙🫶

Let’s talk bouldering! All the climbs in the gym follow the V-scale AND are color coordinated. This makes it easy if you’re new to climbing. 🤍 V0, V1, V2 = Beginner 💛 V3, V4, V5 = Intermediate 💚 V6, V7, V8 = Advanced 🖤 V9 and up = Expert You’ll start where the tags are- some climbs will have two start holds and others will have one start hold. Look for the TOP tags near the end of the climb and match both hands to finish the climb. Don’t forget about using the volumes, they’re on for every climb! 😉 Tag your boulder buddy ✨
